Mahindra Thar OG Launched At Rs 10.32 Lakh

Mahindra has launched the Thar OG at a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the second update to the three-door SUV in just over a year. The Mahindra Thar OG gets a new platform, revised suspension and steering, more power from its petrol and diesel engines, and added safety kit.

The starting price matches the base AXT trim of the outgoing model. The Thar OG continues to rival body-on-frame SUVs such as the Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Mahindra Thar OG Price and Variants

The Thar OG is offered across three trims called AXT, LXT and ZXT, paired with three engine options and RWD or 4WD layouts depending on the variant. The 1.5-litre diesel is offered only with the AXT trim, while the LXT and ZXT get all three powertrains.

Mahindra Thar OG: Design & Features

The Mahindra Thar OG gets a redesigned grille with 'Thar' branding, LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, and LED fog lamps with a cornering function. Revised front and rear bumpers accompany a wider track than the outgoing model.

New 19-inch alloy wheels, revised LED tail-lamps and 'OG' branding on the tailgate round off the changes. Mahindra has also added Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue to the colour palette.

The cabin layout carries over largely unchanged, with a new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a second-row armrest with integrated cupholders. Mahindra claims the Thar OG runs lower NVH levels than the outgoing model.

Six airbags are now standard across the Thar OG range, a first for the three-door model. Mahindra says the SUV uses a '4 Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder' airbag system designed to protect front and rear occupants in a side impact.

Mahindra Thar OG Engine, Transmission and Chassis

The Thar OG sits on Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform, first used on the Thar Roxx, which the brand says adds structural stiffness. A rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link and Frequency Dependent Damping, referred to as DAVINCI dampers, are also new to the three-door model.

An Electronic Locking Differential joins dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes, while hydraulic power steering makes way for an electric setup aimed at easier low-speed manoeuvring. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine now makes 162hp and 330Nm, up 10hp and as much as 30Nm, and the 2.2-litre diesel makes 152hp and 330Nm, up 18hp and 30Nm.

The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel is unchanged at 117hp and 300Nm. A 6-speed manual is standard, with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic offered depending on variant, and the Thar OG can be had with either RWD or 4WD.

Disc brakes now feature at all four corners across the line-up, paired with an ESP suite covering roll-over mitigation, traction control, hill-hold control and vehicle dynamics control. Front parking sensors are available on higher trims.
