2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Teased Ahead Of September 22 Launch

Mahindra has released the first official teaser of the 2026 Thar facelift, confirming a launch date of September 22. The image highlights the SUV's grille and off-road character, paired with the tagline "An icon, now more iconic."

The teaser shows a close-up of a mud-covered front grille with vertical openings, mesh inserts and Mahindra lettering placed above them. Another image carries the caption "Off-Road Adventure now gets muddier," though both photographs stay tightly cropped and stop short of showing the headlights, bumper or cabin.

Mahindra Thar Facelift: Expected Design & Cabin Changes

Test mules of the Mahindra Thar (3-door) facelift spotted earlier suggest a more extensive update than the feature additions Mahindra introduced in 2025. The biggest change is expected up front, with spy shots pointing to a revised grille and circular projector LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs, similar to the Thar Roxx.

A new front bumper and updated fog lamps could also feature, along with a different wheel design seen on test vehicles. The 3-door proportions, tailgate-mounted spare wheel and split rear opening are expected to carry over unchanged. Rear-end revisions look limited to the tail lamps and bumper.

Cabin updates likely include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, based on Mahindra's own earlier disclosures. A 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats remain possibilities, and Level 2 ADAS has not been confirmed either. Mahindra has not revealed the interior in these teasers, so the extent of the cabin overhaul stays unconfirmed.

Mahindra Thar Facelift: Engine Options And Expected Pricing

The facelifted Mahindra Thar is expected to retain its current engine lineup: a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The smaller diesel is likely to stick with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, while the larger units continue with manual and automatic options paired to four-wheel drive.

The current 3-door Thar is priced between Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom. The facelifted version is expected to carry a minor price increase, and sales of the outgoing model are expected to pick up as the September 22 launch approaches.
