Made-in-India Citroen Basalt Heads To South Africa – Stellantis Begins Exports
Stellantis has begun exporting the made-in-India Citroën Basalt to the South African market. The Basalt competes in the relatively niche coupe-SUV segment against models like the Tata Curvv and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
Citroen Basalt Now Exported To South Africa
Multinational auto manufacturer Stellantis which owns Citroen has officially started shipments from April 30, 2026, with the Basalt being manufactured at its Chennai facility. This marks another step in Stellantis' strategy to expand its export footprint using India as a key production hub.

Stellantis is already present in the South African market with India-made products, and the Basalt now becomes the latest addition to its export portfolio. With this milestone, the company has also crossed cumulative exports of over 10,000 units. Notably, the Basalt has been developed for both domestic and global markets, with up to 95% localisation.
India continues to play a crucial role for the brand in terms of manufacturing and export capabilities. The Basalt stands out as one of the more premium and design-focused offerings in its segment, appealing to both domestic and international buyers.
