Kia Teases New HEV And BEV For India: Sorento Hybrid And Syros EV Likely
South Korean carmaker Kia has released a teaser video hinting at two upcoming electrified - Hybrid and Battery EV - models for the Indian market. The clip alternates between the terms "HEV" and "BEV," paired with the line "The future is knocking. One clue. More than one possibility."
Kia has not confirmed the vehicles, but the firm's Sorento Hybrid and Syros EV are the likely candidates. Test mules of both SUVs have been sighted on the move undergoing testing here in India.
Kia Syros EV Expected As Fourth Electric Model
Kia has tested the Syros EV on Indian roads on multiple occasions, indicating the launch timeline is approaching. Once introduced, it will become Kia India's fourth EV after the Carens Clavis EV, EV6 and EV9. The electric SUV is expected to retain the boxy design of the ICE-powered Syros, with EV-specific changes including revised front and rear detailing, aerodynamic alloy wheels, unique colour options and EV badging. Test mules have also shown a charging port mounted above the left front fender.
Inside, the Syros EV is likely to carry over the 30-inch Trinity display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, dashcam and Level 2 ADAS suite from the standard model, along with EV-specific software and graphics. Powertrain specifications have not been confirmed. Fast charging support is expected, with pricing likely to fall between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, placing it against the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV3XO EV.

Kia Sorento Hybrid To Top The SUV Lineup
The Kia Sorento Hybrid has also been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions this year. If launched, the Sorento will become Kia India's flagship ICE-based SUV, positioned above the Seltos. It measures 4,815 mm in length with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, placing it in competition with the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian and, on pricing, the Toyota Fortuner.
The three-row SUV is expected to offer six-seat and seven-seat layouts, a large panoramic sunroof, a Bose audio system, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, an electronic parking brake and a Level 2 ADAS suite. A self-charging hybrid setup appears to be the strongest option for India, though Kia may also evaluate a plug-in hybrid variant. A standard petrol engine has not been ruled out, but current signs point toward hybrid power as the priority.
Kia India Sales Performance
Kia India dispatched 24,552 units in June 2026, marking its highest-ever June sales and a 19% YoY increase. The brand also posted its best-ever first-half performance in H1 2026, led by demand for the Sonet, Seltos and Carens Clavis. Adding the new HEV and BEV models would let Kia target both the hybrid and battery-electric segments, which are growing at different paces across urban and semi-urban markets.
