Kia Sorento Teased Ahead Of India Launch
South Korean carmaker Kia has released a new teaser confirming the Sorento nameplate for its upcoming three-row SUV in India. The teaser uses an image of Sorrento, Italy, as a wordplay clue, and follows an earlier teaser confirming plans for new HEV and BEV models.
The latest social post by Kia India encouraged users to identify the picturesque location using Google Lens or an AI assistant, without directly naming the model. The teaser for the Sorento arrives shortly after Kia India launched the Syros EV.
Test mules of the Kia Sorento have been spotted on Indian roads multiple times over the past few months, and select dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings. Reports suggest that token amounts for these bookings reportedly range between Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000, depending on the dealership.
Kia India has not officially opened bookings, but reports suggest that the Sorento could launch in late August or early September ahead of the Dusshera-Diwali festive season. The new Kia Sorento for the Indian market is likely to arrive via the CKD route and could be priced at approximately Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kia Sorento will be the firm's premium three-row SUV for India and will be positioned above the Seltos and Carens. The Kia Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase.
Kia Sorento Engine, Features And Rivals
Kia is expected to introduce the Sorento with a strong hybrid powertrain, marking the brand's first such setup for the Indian market. Reports suggest that the Sorento will sport a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor, along with an optional all-wheel-drive system.
A conventional petrol variant could also be offered alongside the hybrid setup, though a diesel option appears unlikely for the India-spec Sorento SUV. Kia is yet to confirm official powertrain details for the India-spec Sorento, though the hybrid setup is expected to be the highlight for our market.
The Kia Sorento's feature list for India is likely to include dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and multi-zone climate control. Premium upholstery, a Bose audio system, powered front seats, a 360-degree camera and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also expected to be standard on the Sorento. Other expected highlights for the India-spec Sorento include all-LED lighting, large alloy wheels and a Level 2 ADAS suite for driver assistance.
Once launched, the Kia Sorento will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Honda ZR-V, Jeep Meridian and the MG Majestor.
