Kia Sorento For India Officially Revealed - Production Underway Ahead Of September 4 Launch

Kia India has officially revealed the India-spec Sorento hybrid SUV ahead of its price announcement on 4 September. Production of the Kia Sorento has started at the firm's facility in Anantpur, with the first unit of the SUV rolling off the line today.

Pre-bookings for the Kia Sorento opened earlier this month, ahead of the SUV's official price reveal. The Sorento will be Kia's first hybrid SUV with AWD for the Indian market, and is set to sit at the top of the brand's ICE SUV lineup.

Speaking on the reveal and commencement of production, Mr. Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO, Kia India, said, "The Sorento has long stood as a global symbol of Kia's SUV leadership, earning the trust of customers across international markets and becoming one of Kia's most established flagship SUV nameplates. Its arrival in India marks a defining moment for our premium portfolio. With the first locally produced Sorento rolling off the production line at our Anantapur facility today, we are taking an important step in bringing this globally acclaimed premium flagship SUV to Indian customers.

As Kia's first hybrid SUV for the country, complemented by a powerful Diesel powertrain, Sorento reflects our commitment to offering customers meaningful choice. The Sorento launching in India will also be the first globally to introduce Live Generative AI, marking another important milestone for Kia and a first for the Indian automotive industry. These first images are only a glimpse of what's to come as we prepare to introduce the Sorento to India."

Kia Sorento - Exterior Design Highlights

The Kia Sorento features a Carnival-inspired headlamp design with four projector units for the main headlight setup. A new grille comes with a chrome surround, along with dual LED fog lights positioned on either side of the air dam. Contrast-coloured skid plates sit at both ends of the front bumper, alongside air curtains on either side.

The Sorento also gets dual-tone alloy wheels and a brushed aluminium insert on the fender that stretches to the front doors. Further exterior highlights include a chrome insert for the side cladding and window lines, black roof rails, and wraparound LED taillights. The Kia Sorento also gets an integrated spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, and body-coloured door handles.

Inside, the new Kia Sorento for India comes equipped with a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. A new four-spoke multifunction steering wheel sits ahead of a curved dashboard display featuring dual screens, set against a dual-tone beige and black interior theme.

Additional features on the Sorento include a rotary dial on the centre console for the drive selector and a powered tailgate. The front seats get electric adjustment along with a ventilation function, while the second row is equipped with sunshades and comfort headrests. A front armrest and dual-function centre console buttons and screen, covering both AC and music controls, round off the cabin.

Kia Sorento - Engine & Powertrain

Kia has confirmed that the Sorento will be offered with hybrid and diesel powertrains in India, though the finer engine details remain under wraps. An AWD system has also been confirmed for the Sorento which also gets ADAS as part of its safety kit.

Once launched, the Sorento will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Honda ZR-V, Toyota Fortuner Legender, MG Majestor, and the MG Gloster.
