Kia Sorento Launched: Engine & Gearbox Options
The Sorento's 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid pairs a 180hp/265Nm engine with an electric motor that adds 65hp and 264Nm, sent through a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It's India's only strong-hybrid to use a turbo-petrol engine, and it can be had with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
The 2.2-litre diesel makes 193hp and 442Nm, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and is also offered with FWD or AWD. The Sorento gets four drive modes, Normal, Eco, Sport and Smart, plus three terrain modes for Snow, Sand and Mud.
Kia Sorento Launched: Exterior Design
Up front, the SUV carries Kia's Tiger-nose grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern and a chrome surround, along with vertically stacked LED headlights and Y-shaped LED DRLs. The bumper houses wide central air inlets, dual LED fog lamps and a faux silver skid plate.
In profile, it rides on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, with thin black cladding along the lower body, roof rails, chrome front-fender trim and chrome window surrounds. The rear features L-shaped wraparound LED tail-lights, a clean tailgate with a centred Kia wordmark, a roof-mounted spoiler and a rear wiper and washer. Dual exhaust tips and a second faux skid plate sit within the rear bumper.
Kia Sorento Launched: Interior & Features
Inside, the Sorento comes in grey-black or beige-black dual-tone themes, with dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment, shared with the Seltos and Syros. It skips the 5-inch climate touchscreen those models use, running climate controls through a separate touch panel with scrollers and a toggle button instead. Nine Marvel, Pixar and Disney themes can be applied to the infotainment and cluster graphics, a first for any Kia sold in India.
A 4-spoke steering wheel with physical controls and scrollers sits ahead of a centre console built around a knurled rotary drive selector, a wireless charger, cupholders and a push-button start, extending into a storage-equipped centre armrest.
The Sorento is the only SUV in its segment with a choice of 6 or 7 seats. The 6-seat version swaps the bench for middle-row captain seats, and both layouts use tan leatherette upholstery throughout. Front seats are ventilated with 10-way power adjustment and lumbar support, and the co-driver seat has a boss mode that extends middle-row legroom. The middle row folds electrically, with the 6-seater adding middle-row seat ventilation.
Other equipment includes a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a powered tailgate and real-time generative AI, a first for the Sorento nameplate globally. Safety kit runs to 10 airbags, a digital inside rearview mirror, automated parking assistance, front and rear dashcams and Level 2+ ADAS.
