Kia Sonet Crosses 5 Lakh Sales Milestone In India -
The Kia Sonet has crossed the 5 lakh cumulative sales milestone in India, reinforcing its position as one of the highest-volume contributors in the compact SUV segment. The Kia Sonet has been on sale in India since September 2020 and has consistently driven volume for Kia's domestic operations.
The Kia Sonet currently accounts for around 35 per cent of Kia India's total domestic sales, making it the brand's single most important product by volume. The compact SUV has also recorded annual sales of over 1 lakh units for two consecutive years, highlighting steady demand in a segment that remains highly competitive.

A wide spread of variants and powertrain choices has driven sales growth for the Sonet. Over its lifecycle, the Kia Sonet has been offered with multiple petrol and diesel engine options, along with a range of transmissions including manual, iMT, automatic and dual-clutch units. This broad mechanical mix has allowed the Sonet to cater to both urban buyers and customers prioritising long-distance usability.
The Sonet has also played a key role in Kia's strategy of offering feature-rich vehicles in the sub-4-metre SUV space. Across updates, the Sonet has been equipped with features such as connected car technology, large touchscreen infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, and multiple drive and traction modes on select variants.
Safety equipment on the Kia Sonet has evolved over the years, with newer versions offering six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control and other active safety systems.
The Sonet has undergone periodic updates to remain competitive, including a facelift that brought design revisions, interior updates and feature additions. Despite increased competition from newer entrants in the segment, the Sonet has continued to maintain stable monthly sales volumes.
Celebrating the landmark achievement, Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, "Crossing the 5 lakhs sales milestone for the Sonet is a moment of pride for all of us at Kia India. Every Sonet sold represents a customer who believed in Kia and this is a powerful endorsement of the trust Indian buyers have shown us. This journey reinforces how our focus on delivering meaningful design, advanced technology, and dependable performance has resonated with buyers across the country. We remain deeply grateful to our customers for being integral to this success."
Production for the Kia Sonet is centred at Kia's Anantapur manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, from where the model is also exported to several international markets. Exports have contributed to the Sonet's overall volume performance and helped establish India as a key production hub for Kia's compact SUV portfolio.
From a market positioning standpoint, the Sonet operates in one of the most crowded segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market, competing against multiple established rivals like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The Sonet's ability to sustain volume over multiple years has made it a cornerstone of Kia's India lineup, alongside the Seltos and Carens.
