Hyundai Motor India Turns 30: ₹45,000 Crore Investment Plan & 26 New Models by FY2030

Hyundai Motor India Limited,the Indian arm of South Korean carmaker Hyundai marked its 30th foundation day on May 6, celebrating three decades in the country with cumulative sales of 13.5 million units since 1996. That figure breaks down to 9.6 million domestic deliveries and 3.9 million exports shipped to over 150 countries.

Hyundai has put ₹40,700 crore into its India operations since inception and is committing a further ₹45,000 crore between FY26 and FY30. The spend targets manufacturing expansion, electrification, and future mobility, with 26 new models and variants planned by FY2030.

Manufacturing & Production

HMIL runs two plants in India: Sriperumbudur near Chennai and Talegaon in Pune, together rated at 9.94 lakh units annually. The Chennai facility, which broke ground on the same date in 1996, was the carmaker's first integrated manufacturing plant outside Korea.
Hyundai's capacity in India is scheduled to reach 10.74 lakh units per year by 2028. To help it reach its target, the Korean carmaker opened its Talegaon in 2025.

India is Hyundai's largest passenger vehicle exporter on a cumulative basis, with 3.9 million units shipped. The Verna, Grand i10 NIOS, and Aura account for the bulk of those volumes, heading to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru.

Domestically, the sales network spans 1,500-plus outlets across 1,100-plus cities, covering 78% of Indian districts. Aftersales support runs across 1,675 service touchpoints in 1,025 cities, backed by over 50,000 trained professionals.

Localisation and Sustainability

Average localisation for Hyundai in India sits at 82%, contributing to supply chain development and foreign exchange savings. All HMIL offices and plants operate on 100% renewable energy under the RE100 initiative.

More than 350 energy efficiency projects have been completed in five years. The Chennai plant sources 80% of its water needs through harvesting and recycling, and the company is aligned with Hyundai Motor Company's 2045 carbon neutrality target.
