Hyundai Registers Strong Growth In May 2026, Sells 47,837 Cars In India

Hyundai Motor India has recorded a 9.1% year-on-year growth in domestic sales during May 2026. The South Korean automaker sold a total of 47,837 units in the Indian market during the month.

India's second-largest car manufacturer, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), continues to strengthen its position in the SUV segment. The Hyundai Creta remains one of the best-selling compact SUVs in the country. The company also offers a diverse product portfolio comprising models such as the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, Exter, Venue, Verna, and Alcazar.

Hyundai has also established a presence in the electric vehicle segment with products such as the Creta Electric and the Ioniq 5. Supported by its wide range of vehicles, the company registered total sales of 61,137 units in May 2026, including exports of 13,300 units. Overall sales grew by 4.1% year-on-year.

Speaking on the May 2026 sales performance, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of HMIL, said, "Hyundai Motor India has continued its strong momentum of the year into May as well, achieving domestic sales of 47,837 units with 9.1% YoY growth and total sales of 61,137 units with 4.1% YoY growth. In the first two months (April and May) of FY27, HMIL witnessed domestic sales rise by 13% to 99,739 units, compared to 88,235 units in the same period of FY26."

Strong Competition In The SUV Segment

Hyundai continues to face intense competition from domestic manufacturers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. The company is competing aggressively in the highly popular sub-four-metre SUV segment through models such as the Exter and Venue, which continue to attract strong customer demand.

The new-generation Venue has also contributed positively to the company's sales performance. Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to introduce 26 new products by 2030 with a proposed investment of approximately ₹45,000 crore. The automaker is also expanding its focus on hybrid and electric vehicles, which are expected to play a key role in the future of mobility.
