2026 Hyundai Elantra (Eighth-Gen) Revealed - Sharper Design, AI-Powered Tech & Hybrid Powertrain
Hyundai has unveiled the eighth-generation Elantra sedan, badged the Avante in its home market, at the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show. The new Elantra arrives six years after its predecessor and brings larger dimensions, a fresh design, more equipment and an updated hybrid powertrain.
The sedan follows Hyundai's Art of Steel design language and gets a new Pleos Connect infotainment system with a 14.6-inch touchscreen. The 1.6-litre hybrid setup now makes 16hp more than before, while the 2.0-litre petrol option carries over largely unchanged.

2026 Hyundai Elantra: Exterior Design
The new Elantra measures 4,765mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,425mm in height, riding on a 2,750mm wheelbase. This makes it 55mm longer and 30mm wider than the outgoing model, with a 30mm increase in wheelbase. The bodywork gets sharp cuts and creases consistent with the Art of Steel theme.
At the front, a split-headlamp setup features T-shaped daytime running lamps up top and rhomboidal LED units below, with the bumper getting heavy black trim, a slim intake and an air dam. Down the side, the Elantra gets bulging wheel arches, flap-type door handles, black cladding on the skirts and new 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. A rear quarter glass has been added to reduce visual bulk around the C- and D-pillars.

At the back, an integrated ducktail-style spoiler sits above large T-shaped LED tail-lamps, a tailgate wordmark and a chunky bumper with black cladding and a diffuser-style treatment.
2026 Hyundai Elantra: interior and features
Inside, the Elantra gets Hyundai's new Pleos Connect interface, comprising a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a slim digital driver's display mounted on an all-new dashboard. The passenger-side grab handle on the central tunnel has been dropped. A three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel and an array of physical buttons, toggles and knobs for hazard lights, media and climate controls remain on the centre console.

Equipment includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a built-in dashcam, over-the-air updates, a digital key, 100W USB charging ports, 10 airbags, an ADAS suite, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, powered front seats with memory function, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera and auto park assist.
Two new safety features have been added: navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, which slows the car in speed-limited zones, near speed breakers and at intersections, and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist, which applies the brakes if the driver mistakes the accelerator for the brake pedal.

2026 Hyundai Elantra: Powertrains
The 2026 Elantra continues with its predecessor's 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.6-litre hybrid powertrains. The petrol unit still makes 149hp and is paired with a CVT automatic, while the hybrid's output rises to 157hp, an increase of 16hp, with an updated transmission, drive motor and battery.
The hybrid gets a new smart regenerative braking system that adjusts braking force based on traffic flow and navigation data to cut down on brake pedal use. A Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control System also analyses the route ahead to manage battery charge and improve fuel efficiency. A 'Stay Mode' lets occupants use climate control and infotainment for a period with the engine switched off.
