Spy Pics: Hyundai's Compact Electric SUV Spotted Next To Nexon EV – What We Know So Far

Hyundai's upcoming sub-4-metre electric SUV continues to rack up spy shot appearances ahead of its India launch, and the latest set is particularly telling. The test mule of the upcoming Hyundai EV has been spotted at a charging station in Chandigarh by Carhp.in.

The upcoming Hyundai EV was parked right next to a Tata Nexon EV and the two appear to be broadly similar in footprint, confirming that Hyundai's new B-segment EV will be a proper compact offering.
Hyundai has already committed to launching multiple new EVs in India by 2030, and this sub-4-metre electric SUV is one of the more eagerly awaited entries on that list.

Hyundai Sub 4-Metre Compact EV - Exterior Design: Boxy, Bold & Familiar

Much like Hyundai's other sub-4-metre offerings - the Venue and the Exter - the new electric SUV carries a boxy, upright profile. Spy shots taken from the rear reveal a slightly raked windshield, a roof-mounted spoiler, and horizontally stacked sharp LED taillamps. Rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are also visible.
The roofline is largely flat, and the SUV comes equipped with robust roof rails. Window frames have an angular profile that looks similar to those on the new-generation Venue. The ORVMs are rectangular units and could potentially house cameras for a 360-degree surround view system. The wheels appear to carry a dual-tone finish, though they aren't clearly visible in these shots. Earlier spy shots had also revealed a base variant running steel wheels.
One detail that stands out is the placement of the charging port - it sits on the front-left, above the fender. This is consistent with how Hyundai has positioned the port on the Creta Electric and the global Inster EV, and differs from the rear-right fender placement used on the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
The electric Hyundai SUV features pixel-style LED DRLs mounted at the top, with Hyundai's four-dot logo placed between them. The headlamps are rectangular units positioned lower, around wheel level, a design choice that's becoming increasingly common on modern EVs. A prominent front bumper, a compact bonnet, circular wheel arches, and flush door handles round out the front and side profile.

Hyundai Sub 4-Metre Compact EV - Platform & Manufacturing

Hyundai has previously stated that this small EV is being developed with Indian consumers specifically in mind. A high degree of localisation is planned, which should help the brand keep pricing competitive. Production is expected to take place at Hyundai's new Talegaon facility near Pune.
On the platform front, the SUV is likely to ride on the E-GMP (K) architecture - Hyundai's dedicated electric vehicle platform adapted for more affordable, localised products.
As for pricing, the primary rival - the Tata Punch EV - currently starts at Rs 9.69 lakh, or as low as Rs 6.49 lakh under the Battery-as-a-Service scheme. Other players in this segment include the Citroen eC3 at Rs 12.90 lakh, the Nexon EV from Rs 12.49 lakh, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV at Rs 13.89 lakh. The upcoming Bridger EV is also expected to enter this space.
Interior details and powertrain specifications for Hyundai's new compact EV are yet to be officially confirmed. A launch is anticipated either later in 2026 or sometime in 2027.
