Hyundai Bayon Name Revealed For Upcoming Mid-Size SUV
Hyundai has confirmed the name of its upcoming midsize SUV: the Hyundai Bayon, which will be positioned between the Venue and the Creta in India. According to Hyundai, the Bayon name is inspired by a city in the French Basque Country.
Hyundai already sells a Bayon nameplate in Europe and Central Asia, based on the i20 hatchback, but the India-spec SUV is a different product altogether. It is expected to measure just over four metres in length and launch during this year's festive season.

Hyundai Bayon: Expected Pricing & Powertrains
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be priced from around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting the Creta. That gives Hyundai a two-pronged strategy in the midsize SUV space, similar to Maruti's approach with the Grand Vitara and Brezza.
Power for the Hyundai Bayon will likely come from the Creta's 115hp 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 6-speed manual or CVT. This engine is also expected to be offered with a CNG option, likely with an underbody tank, making the Bayon the first Hyundai model over four metres long to run on CNG. This same powertrain configuration was reported as early as July, ahead of Hyundai's official confirmation of the SUV's name.
Hyundai Bayon: Expected Design & Features
Test mules of the SUV show a crossover-like stance rather than a boxy, upright profile. Camouflaged units point to a split headlamp setup with a full-width LED light bar on top, a Verna-like main headlamp unit lower in the bumper, and a two-part air intake with the number plate holder placed centrally.
In profile, the Bayon gets a rising window line with a kink at the C-pillar, along with pull-type door handles, functional roof rails and flared wheel arches similar to the Exter, without heavy body cladding. At the rear, a slim LED light band echoes the front signature, along with a roof spoiler.
Inside, recent spy shots of the Bayon show a twin-screen dashboard layout, likely using the same 12.3-inch units seen on top-spec Venue variants. A dual-tone steering wheel features a four-dot motif spelling out 'H' in Morse code, and the cabin is expected to get a dual-tone black-and-white colour scheme.
