Honda To Manufacture ‘O Alpha’ EV In India With ₹1,200 Crore Investment
Honda Cars is expected to manufacture the 'O Alpha' electric car in Rajasthan, India. The Japanese automaker recently announced plans to scrap its 'O Series' electric vehicles for the US market. The project is expected to involve an investment of around ₹1,200 crore, with the EV likely to be manufactured locally in India.
Honda EV cars to be Produced In Rajasthan
Japanese Auto manufacturer Honda is set to manufacture its electric SUVs in India. According to an Economic Times report, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma met Honda Cars India CEO Takashi Nakajima about manufacturing these vehicles in the state.

Honda's facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan, will be the key manufacturing hub for the O Series EV production in India. This Car is also set to be exported to select overseas markets, hence increasing India's export capabilities.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said, "As part of the preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, during the Japan visit in September 2024, we invited Honda Cars India Limited to manufacture and invest in EV Models in Rajasthan."

He added, "I am extremely delighted to share that the production of Honda's first EV model, Honda O Alpha, is set to begin at the Tapukara Plant in Rajasthan with an Investment of 1,200 crore." This will bring benefits such as employment, development of a skilled workforce, export capabilities, and local production capabilities. It also makes these EVs very accessible to Indian consumers, thereby increasing EV adoption in the country.
The 'O' series was scrapped in the US market after the Trump regime changed the EV policies that made them less attractive for buyers. But Honda ensured that the EV plan for India is on track, and the brand sees India as an attractive market. This will also be Honda's first-ever electric car for the Indian market.
