Honda City Future Plan Revealed – 2026 Facelift, New Gen In 2028
Honda City remains one of the most iconic sedans in India, but its market share has declined in recent years amid rising competition. With the current fifth-generation model dating back to 2020, the sedan is now due for a major update to regain its position in the segment.
The upcoming updates to the City are expected to play a crucial role in reviving Honda's position in India. Before the next-generation model arrives, a mid-life facelift is anticipated this year to keep the sedan competitive in the mid-size segment. Here's a look at what Honda could be planning for the City.

Honda City Facelift Plan in 2026
A facelift for the Honda City is expected to arrive this year, bringing subtle exterior design updates. The interior could see changes inspired by the Honda Elevate, including a floating touchscreen infotainment system and updated premium upholstery.
Most features are likely to remain unchanged, with the sedan continuing to be powered by the 1.5L naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. It will continue to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission.
Key features such as Honda Sensing (Level 2 ADAS), six airbags, a sunroof, full LED lighting, and powered seats are expected to remain with the car. Ventilated front seats could be offered as a factory-fitted feature instead of an accessory

6th Generation Honda City in 2028
As per current expectations, the sixth-generation Honda City could debut around 2028. This model is likely to be built on a new platform and may support multiple powertrains, including petrol, hybrid, and potentially electric options.
The next-gen City is anticipated to feature a completely redesigned exterior and a more refined, tech-loaded cabin. The design could follow Honda's newer global design philosophy, making it more futuristic and premium.

There is also speculation about the introduction of a more powerful turbo-petrol i-VTEC engine, which has long been anticipated in the Indian market. With expanded powertrain options, the new City could compete better against rivals such as the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and Hyundai Verna. Honda already offers the City e: HEV hybrid, which could be further localised to improve accessibility and value.
The Honda City remains one of the longest-running nameplates in India. Reviving the City will be crucial not only for Honda's sales but also for sustaining the mid-size sedan segment in an SUV-dominated market.
