Honda City Facelift Spotted Ahead of May 22 India Launch

Honda Cars India is preparing for its first major car launch of 2026, and it will be the updated Honda City facelift. This refreshed mid-size sedan is scheduled to launch on May 22 and has recently been spotted testing with a significantly revised front-end design.

Honda remains one of the most trusted and reliable automobile brands in India. However, the company has faced challenges in recent years due to a limited product portfolio and declining sales. To revive its position in the market, Honda is planning several new product launches by 2030, including new SUVs, hybrid models and fully electric vehicles.

Honda City Facelift Launch on May 22

The Honda City facelift is launching this month and it is one of the longest-running and most iconic sedans in the Indian market. It continues to compete in the mid-size sedan segment against strong rivals such as the Volkswagen Virtus, Škoda Slavia and Hyundai Verna.

While the City remains highly regarded for its comfort, reliability and refined engine, some competitors currently offer more features, stronger performance and newer technologies. Honda is therefore introducing this facelift to enhance the model's appeal until the next-generation City arrives, which is expected around 2028.

Key changes

The most noticeable changes are expected at the front, where the sedan will receive a redesigned fascia inspired by the larger Honda Accord. Updates are likely to include a new grille, revised bumpers, sharper LED headlamps and fresh dual-tone alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, Honda is expected to add several premium features, including a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, an updated infotainment system similar to the one found in the Honda Elevate and additional ADAS safety functions.

Powertrain

The facelift is likely to retain the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine, which produces around 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. Transmission options should continue to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. The Honda City e:HEV is also expected to receive similar cosmetic and feature updates.

Pricing

The Honda City is currently selling at 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and the facelift could be sold with a slight price increase. The City holds immense brand value in India and has dominated the mid-size sedan segment for many years. With this facelift, Honda aims to restore some of the model's lost momentum and strengthen its position ahead of a broader product lineup in the coming years.
