Blue Oval Masters The Green Hell: Ford GT Mk IV Becomes Fastest Pure-Petrol Car At Nürburgring
The Ford GT Mk IV track-only supercar has set a lap time of 6 minutes and 15.977 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, making it the fastest pure-combustion, non-electrified car to lap the circuit known as the Green Hell. The lap was set by Ford factory driver Frédéric Vervisch, a two-time Nürburgring 24 Hours winner.
The Ford GT Mk IV lap of the green hell also makes it the fastest American car to lap the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, surpassing the previous record of 6 minutes and 49.275 seconds set by the 1250hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X.
The Ford GT Mk IV's 6:15.977 lap places the American supercar third overall in terms of Nürburgring Nordschleife lap records. The GT MK IV sits behind the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, the unrestricted version of the Le Mans LMP1 prototype, which holds the record for the fastest ever lap of the green hell with a time of 5:19.546 and the all-electric Volkswagen ID.R, which lapped the ring in a time of 6:05.336.
Frédéric Vervisch, the man behind the wheel for the Ford GT Mk IV's record lap time of the Green Hell, stated, "Driving the Ford GT Mk IV at the Nürburgring is an experience unlike any other. The car is an absolute weapon, a true extension of your will. Every input is met with an immediate, precise response. Through the Kesselchen, over the Flugplatz, it just inspires confidence, allowing you to push harder and harder. You feel the history of the track, and you feel the immense capability of the Ford Racing engineers who poured their hearts into this machine. To set these records is a dream come true, a testament to what's possible when passion meets precision."

Ford GT Mk IV - Everything You Need To Know
The Ford GT Mk IV marks the end of production of the Ford GT, which went into production in 2016, marking 50 years of Ford's first-ever win at Le Mans in 1966. The GT Mk IV gets its name from the 1967 winning Ford GT MK IV race car, and is limited to just 67 units worldwide, priced at $1.7 million (starting price before options) each.
The Ford GT Mk IV features a longer wheelbase, a sequential racing gearbox, Adaptive Spool Valve suspension for track use, and a redesigned long-tail body with a whole lot more aero to keep the car glued to the track, compared to the "regular" GT. Ford also increased the displacement of the twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine to 3.8 litres, with the engine now producing in excess of 800hp.

Like the Porsche 919 Evo and the VW ID R, the Ford GT Mk IV is not road legal, though unlike those two cars, it is available to buy at Ford dealerships, making it the fastest car to lap the ring that can be purchased at a car dealership. However, due to the GT Mk IV's track-only status, the Mercedes-AMG One, with its F1-derived turbocharged 1.6-litre hybrid V6 engine, and a lap time of 6 minutes and 29.090 seconds, remains the fastest road-legal production car to have lapped the Green Hell.
