Live Near A Toll Plaza? Save Money With FASTag Local Pass From Nov 1

The Central Government will introduce the FASTag local pass from November 1, 2026, a concessional annual toll pass for non-commercial vehicle owners living within 20km of a National Highway toll plaza. It costs Rs 1,500 or Rs 3,000 a year, depending on the plaza's location.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notified the scheme on October 26 under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2026, issued under the National Highways Act, 1956. The standard FASTag annual pass costs Rs 3,075 in 2026-27.

FASTag Local Pass Fees

Toll plazas outside municipal or local town limits will charge Rs 1,500 a year, while those within these limits will charge Rs 3,000. Eligible vehicle owners can pick between the concessional pass and the existing monthly pass for a specific toll plaza.

The Central Government may revise the fees annually, with any change taking effect from April 1. The pass will be available at eligible toll plazas from November 1, 2026, and through the Rajmargyatra app from December 1, 2026.

Over 13 crore FASTags have been issued across the country. The local pass gives eligible residents living near toll plazas a more economical option for regular travel. To get the local pass, owners must live within 20km of the toll plaza and hold a valid, functional FASTag registered for non-commercial use. The pass is valid only at the designated toll plaza and is not transferable to any other.

The scheme does not apply to National Highways or expressways that use a closed user-fee collection system. It is also not issued where a service road or an alternative road is available to commuters.
