The ninth stage of Dakar 2026 saw Honda's Tosha Schareina take his third stage win at Dakar 2026. In the cars category, Energylandia Rally Team's Eryk Goczal took his first-ever win at the Dakar.

Stage 9 of Dakar 2026 saw drivers and riders head into the Saudi Arabian desert from Wadi Al Dawasir in a 541km long stage to the biouvac, which included a 418 km-long special with mostly rocky terrain and a big dune crossing. Stage 9 was the opening half of the second 48 hour marathon segment of Dakar 2026.

Dakar 2026 Stage 9 Results: Bikes - Schareina Wins As Sanders Opens Up Biggest Ever Lead This Year

Honda's Spanish rider Tosha Schareina took his third stage win of Dakar 2026 today with a time of three hours, 45 minutes and 42 seconds. The Spaniard navigated his way brilliantly as he dipped through the correct canyon to open up a big gap on his rivals, which he continued to build on till the end.

Defending champion, KTM's Daniel Sanders, claimed second place today, ending the stage four minutes and 35 seconds behind the Honda of Schareina. His performance today was enough to help him regain the lead in the overall standings.

The final podium spot was claimed by BAS World KTM's Rally 2 rider Michael Docherty. The South African ended the stage four minutes and 50 seconds behind Schareina as he showed off his speed once again at the world's toughest rally-raid.

Fourth place today was claimed by 2024 Dakar Rally Champion Ricky Brabec. The American guided his Honda across the plateaus and the dunes to end the stage six minutes and 22 seconds behind his Spanish teammate. Skyler Howes made it three Hondas in the top 5 again as the American ended the day seven minutes and 54 seconds behind Schareina.

It was a tough day in the saddle for Hero's riders at Dakar 2026. Ross Branch was the best of the Hero duo in 15th place today, ending the stage 20 minutes and two seconds behind Schareina. Ignacio "Nacho" Cornjeo was a further four places down on the time sheets compared to Branch. The Chilean rider finished Stage 9, 23 minutes and 57 seconds behind Schareina.

In the overall rankings, Australia's Daniel Sanders is back in the lead at Dakar 2026. The KTM rider now enjoys the biggest lead at this year's Dakar after he opened a gap of six minutes and 24 seconds over 2024 champion Ricky Brabec.

Yesterday's leader, KTM's Luciano Benavides, is now seven minutes and five seconds behind his Aussie teammate after nine rounds of Dakar 2026. The rider from Argentina ended today's stage in ninth place.

Today's winner Tosha Schareina is still in fourth place, 15 minutes 28 seconds behind Sanders. The Honda rider from Spain must be kicking himself now about the ten-minute penalty he received on the first marathon stage, without which, he would have been much closer to Sanders at the top of the overall standings.

Honda's Skyler Howes still occupies the fifth spot in the overall standings after Stage 9. The American rider is 44 minutes and 15 seconds behind Sanders with four stages left in Dakar 2026.

Hero's Igancio Nacho Cornejo is still in sixth place after nine rounds of Dakar 2026. The Chilean rider is now one hour, five minutes and 10 seconds adrift of Sanders. Ross Branch, continues to occupy the 8th spot in the overall standings. The rider from Botswana is now two hours, 10 minutes and 19 seconds behind Benavides.

Stage 9 of Dakar 2026 saw Poland's Eryk Goczal take his first win at the world's toughest rally raid. The Energylandia Rally Team driver took the stage win with a time of three hours, 46 minutes and 42 seconds.

Eryk led a family 1-2 across the line, as his uncle Michal Goczal and fellow Energylandia Rally Team driver took second spot in Stage 9, ending the day, seven minutes and 45 seconds behind his nephew on the time sheets.

The final podium spot was claimed by Australia's Toby Price. The Toyota driver, who has won the Dakar twice on two wheels, claimed his first podium on four wheels at the Dakar, ending the day, 11 minutes and 36 seconds behind the Hilux driven by Eryk Goczal.

Fourth place today was claimed by South Africa's Brian Baragwanath. The Century Racing Factory Team driver ended the day 11 minutes and 58 seconds behind Goczal.

Fifth place today was taken by Stage 1 winner Guillaume de Mevius. The Belgian driver ended the day 14 minutes and three seconds adrift of Goczal in his Mini.

In the overall rankings, Ford's Nani Roma is now at the top of the time sheets after Stage 9. Roma leads Dakar 2026 with a time of 36 hours, 44 minutes and one second. Roma is just 57 seconds ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz. El Matador (the four-time Dakar Winner) finished the stage ahead of Roma, but was hit with a one-minute time penalty for speeding.

Dacia's Nasser Al-Attiyah now sits in third place. The Qatari driver, a five-time Dakar winner, is just one minute and 10 seconds behind Roma's Ford. Toyota's Henk Lategan is now in fourth place. The South African is six minutes and 13 seconds behind Roma. Fifth spot is held by Ford's Mattias Ekstrom, the Swede is 11 minutes and 19 seconds behind his teammate.

Tomorrow will see competitors head out into the desert early as they head to the city of Bisha. Tomorrow's stage will be mostly spent driving and riding over the sandy dunes. Tomorrow's 418km long stage includes a 371km long timed special stage.
