Chinese EV giant BYD believes its DM-i technology could be a game-changer for the Indian market thanks to its impressive range, intelligent power management, and advanced battery technology. Here are the top five things to know about BYD's DM-i technology.

1. More EV Than Hybrid

Most hybrid vehicles operate primarily as petrol-powered cars, with the electric motor assisting during acceleration and low-speed driving. BYD's DM-i technology takes a different approach.

The vehicle runs on electric power for most driving conditions, with the electric motor handling the majority of propulsion duties. The petrol engine primarily acts as a generator, supplying energy to the battery when required. This results in a quieter, smoother, and more EV-like driving experience while maximising efficiency.

2. Over 1,200km Combined Range

The DM-i system intelligently combines power from the engine and electric motor to achieve maximum efficiency. BYD claims its plug-in hybrid technology can deliver a combined driving range of over 1,200km on a full tank and a fully charged battery.
