BMW X1 LWB Launched At Rs 49.90 Lakh

German luxury carmaker BMW has launched the X1 LWB in India at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable model in the X1 range. The long-wheelbase SUV joins the standard-wheelbase X1 and the electric iX1 in BMW's line-up, and it is offered solely with a petrol engine paired with M Sport styling as standard.

The BMW X1 LWB undercuts the standard X1 petrol, which costs Rs 50.90 lakh, by Rs 1 lakh. It gets a 108mm longer wheelbase than the regular X1, along with a reworked rear seat and retuned suspension for improved comfort.

BMW X1 LWB: Exterior & Interior

At 4,616mm long, the BMW X1 LWB is 116mm longer overall than the standard model, with 108mm of that added purely to the wheelbase, which now measures 2,800mm. The peeled-back headlamps, M Sport bumpers and edgy tail-lights carry over unchanged, as do the 18-inch alloy wheels. The main visual distinction is a chrome window surround with silver inserts on the door sills and rear bumper, replacing the blacked-out finish of the standard X1; a Shadow package is available as an optional extra. Four colours are on offer: Night Dusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White.

Inside, the added length of the X1 LWB translates to 109mm of extra rear kneeroom. The rear seat itself gets enhanced cushioning and a 15mm longer base for more thigh support, and the backrest can be reclined by a couple of degrees. Boot space stands at 540 litres, expandable to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded.

Up front, the cabin mirrors the standard X1, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.7-inch touchscreen, asymmetric AC vents, a wireless charging pad and a floating centre console housing the gear selector and drive mode controls. Equipment includes adaptive LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, powered front seats and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, though ventilated and massage front seats, as well as a separate rear climate zone, are not offered.

The BMW X1 LWB Safety kit spans 8 airbags, ABS, ESC, Isofix mounts and ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning and assist, but adaptive cruise control is missing.

BMW X1 LWB Powertrain

The X1 LWB is powered exclusively by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 156hp, 20hp more than the standard X1, and 230Nm, sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Unlike the standard-wheelbase X1, which is offered with a 2.0-litre diesel, the LWB is not available with a diesel option. The X1 LWB remains the only long-wheelbase model in its segment, where it competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and Mini Countryman C.
