Audi A2 e-Tron Teased – Affordable Electric SUV, India Launch Likely?
Audi has teased the new A2 electric SUV, which will become the brand's new entry-level model in its global lineup. This upcoming EV is set to replace the existing A1 hatchback and Q2 SUV. The German automaker is reviving the A2 nameplate after more than two decades.
Audi Teases New A2 EV
The new model is expected to debut later this year and will serve as the most accessible offering in Audi's electric vehicle portfolio. The A2 e-tron will effectively replace both the A1 and Q2, which are expected to be phased out in the coming years. It will be positioned as Audi's most affordable EV and will be based on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, which also underpins models like the Volkswagen ID.3.
The vehicle will be manufactured in Germany and is expected to draw design inspiration from the original A2, featuring a lightweight construction and aerodynamic styling to enhance efficiency and driving range.
On the inside, the A2 e-tron is likely to offer a spacious cabin with comfortable seating to improve passenger convenience. In terms of technology, it is expected to share several components with its Volkswagen sibling, including the touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and other connected features.
Speaking about the new model, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said, "We've listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that - efficient, compact, and confident. We're making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever."
He further added, "The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility 'made in Germany'."
Following its global debut later this year, the A2 e-tron is expected to go on sale around 2027. Given its positioning as Audi's most affordable electric model, the vehicle could be introduced in the Indian market as well.
