ARAI Now Has Full Euro NCAP 2026 Sled Test Capability - Completes First Far-Side Sled Test

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has successfully completed its first far-side sled test under the Euro NCAP 2026 protocol. With this milestone, ARAI has established full capability across the complete suite of NCAP sled tests, covering Knee Mapping, VTC, Whiplash and Far-Side evaluations.

The achievement supports the Government of India's 'Design and Validate in India' initiative, enabling global-standard safety validation within the country and reducing dependence on overseas testing facilities.

What Is The Far-Side Sled Test?

Euro NCAP sled tests use controlled crash simulations to verify that vehicle safety systems meet stringent European benchmarks. The test replicates real-world side-impact scenarios to evaluate occupant restraint systems; i.e., it assesses the effectiveness of seats, seat belts, airbags, and occupant restraint systems as a whole.

The far-side sled test specifically evaluates how occupants move within the cabin during a side-impact collision. It tracks lateral displacement away from the point of impact. Early validation through such assessments contributes directly to improved crashworthiness and higher safety ratings.

Physical Sled Testing Suite Expanded - All Four Tests Now Covered

Completing the far-side evaluation gives ARAI full coverage of all four NCAP sled test types. Combined with its computer-aided engineering facility, the institution can now offer manufacturers comprehensive end-to-end safety development and validation under one roof.
