Tata’s Next-Level Crash Testing With The Tata Punch Facelift
Tata Motors has taken car safety crash tests to the next level by crashing the newly launched Tata Punch Facelift into a large truck, showcasing its protection in real-world accident scenarios. The Tata Punch is one of the safest cars in the market, and it already carries a 5-star safety rating.
Tata Punch Facelift Crash Test
Crashing a car into a regular truck for testing safety is highly unusual and closely resembles real-world road conditions. During the launch of the Tata Sierra, Tata had carried out a similar safety demonstration by crashing two Sierra SUVs into each other.
Following the launch of the Tata Punch Facelift, Tata took the bold step of crashing the car straight into a truck to demonstrate its safety to the audience. This test was conducted under controlled conditions at their own facility.

Typically, crash tests are conducted in controlled environments where cars crash into rigid barriers to assess safety levels. However, Tata's approach with the Punch Facelift comes much closer to real-life accident situations. In the real world, Most car accidents in India involve collisions with other vehicles.
Hence, the 2026 Punch Facelift was made to crash directly into a truck that was several metres tall. Upon impact, the airbags inside the car deployed within split seconds, the cabin remained intact, and there were no major impacts observed beyond the crumple zone. This was a proper frontal collision test, and we believe it has already passed.

The Punch SUV is already one of the safest cars in India, with a 5-star BNCAP rating and a 5-star Global NCAP rating (2021). Its safety features include six airbags as standard, auto-dimming IRVM, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps, a first-in-segment 360-degree surround-view system, blind view monitor, SOS calling, ESP, and hill descent control.
The Tata Punch Facelift now gets a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine producing 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The regular 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 87.8 PS and 115 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. It is also offered with a bi-fuel CNG option for improved mileage and efficiency.
Tata Motors has priced the 2026 Tata Punch Facelift at ₹5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Its rivals include the Nissan Magnite, Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Exter, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
