2026 Renault Duster: Petrol, Mild Hybrid & Strong Hybrid — Powertrains Explained

The 2026 Renault Duster has officially made its comeback in India, sporting a sharper, more muscular design and a tech-loaded cabin. Renault has also brought three advanced petrol and hybrid engines for the Indian market. The company thinks these three powertrain options are enough to tap into the Compact SUV segment.

Note that the new Renault Duster doesn't have a Diesel powertrain option, unlike the previous generation model sold in India. Renault Claims that all these powertrains offer segment-leading performance and efficiency. Let's take a closer look at each powertrain and the type of buyers it is best suited for.

2026 Renault Duster Powertrains Explained

1. Turbo TCe 100 - Base Petrol Powertrain

Positioned as the entry-level option, the Turbo TCe 100 is expected to attract buyers seeking the Duster at a more affordable price point. This 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Turbo-petrol engine produces around 100 bhp and 160 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

This setup is tuned for daily usability, delivering smooth power delivery and refinement, particularly in city driving conditions. While some manufacturers prefer a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine at this level, Renault brought a turbocharged three-cylinder unit.

2. Turbo TCe 160 - Mild-Hybrid Petrol Powertrain

This powertrain is expected to be the most popular choice in the lineup. The Turbo TCe 160, 48v mild-hybrid petrol engine, is positioned as the performance-focused option. It is claimed to produce around 160 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque, making it one of the strongest offerings in the segment.

Buyers will have the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed wet clutch DCT automatic transmission, adding convenience that is missing in the base variant. The inclusion of mild-hybrid technology is expected to improve fuel efficiency and driving smoothness, especially in urban conditions.

3. Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 - Flagship Powertrain

The Strong Hybrid E-Tech variant sits at the top of the lineup. This setup combines a 1.8L NA petrol GDi engine with a 1.4 kWh battery pack. Renault claims that this system can allow up to 80% of city driving to be completed in electric mode. This variant is the successor to the Diesel powertrain and claims 1000km on a single tank.

This could deliver higher fuel efficiency compared to conventional petrol engines. This powertrain is likely to be positioned as a premium powertrain option in the Duster lineup and will be available from Diwali 2026.

Price Launch and Deliveries

Pricing for the 2026 Renault Duster is expected to be announced by March 2026, and deliveries of the base petrol and mild hybrid models would begin in April 2026. The strong hybrid version may be launched during Diwali and could be delivered by late 2026.
