Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Revealed - 835km Range, 253km/h Top Speed

Xiaomi has launched its latest electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, in China. Priced from RMB 253,000 (around ₹30.26 lakh), this new model marks Xiaomi's second venture into the automotive industry following the SU7 sedan. The YU7 offers advanced technology, impressive performance, and customisation options, making it a strong contender in China's electric vehicle market.

Xiaomi YU7: Design and Features

In terms of design, the YU7 showcases an evolved aesthetic reminiscent of the SU7. It features smooth panels, stylish headlights, sporty bumpers, and connected LED tail lights. The wide rear haunches and flush door handles add to its sleek appearance. Buyers can choose from nine exterior colours like Basalt Grey and Emerald Green.

Inside the cabin, the YU7 offers dual-tone upholstery options such as Pine Grey and Coral Orange. Front seats include a 10-point massage function and zero-gravity recline. Rear seats recline up to 135 degrees for added comfort. A standout feature is the corner-to-corner Hyperscreen that incorporates three mini-LED screens.

The interior also boasts a smart-dimming panoramic sunroof, a mic-free karaoke system, and a HyperVision Mini LED panoramic display. Additionally, there is a unique 4K gimbal camera integrated into the IRVM along with an AI spatial sensor for enhanced functionality.

The Smart Chassis system manages ride quality using double wishbone front suspension and five-link independent rear suspension setups. Dual-chamber air springs and adaptive dampers contribute to a premium driving experience. Brembo brakes ensure reliable stopping power.

A notable feature is the "Motion Sickness Relief Mode," developed with Huashan and Beijing Tongren Hospitals. This system adjusts pitch, roll, and suspension dynamics to reduce motion sickness symptoms by up to 51%, according to internal testing by Xiaomi.

Xiaomi YU7: Specifications, Performance and Variants

The YU7 is available in three variants: Standard (RWD), Pro (AWD), and Max (AWD with performance upgrades). The top-spec Max variant is powered by Xiaomi's HyperEngine V6s Plus, delivering 690 bhp. The Standard version offers 315 bhp.

The dimensions of the YU7 are substantial at 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,608 mm high with a wheelbase measuring 3,000 mm. Wheel sizes go up to 21 inches for enhanced aesthetics and performance capabilities on different terrains.

All versions utilise Silicon Carbide-based battery packs ranging from 96.3 kWh in Standard/Pro versions to larger batteries in Max versions offering varied ranges - 835 km fo the standard and up to 770 km for the AWD models. All variants support ultra-fast charging capabilities. The battery packs can charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes or gain 620 km of range in 15 minutes.

Xiaomi YU7: Market Impact

Upon its launch in China, the YU7 received over 240,000 pre-orders within just 18 hours. This strong demand highlights Xiaomi's growing influence in China's EV segment. The YU7 also undercuts Tesla Model Y's price by nearly 4%, offering consumers an attractive alternative.

Bookings for the YU7 began with a nominal amount of CNY 20,000 (approximately ₹2.4 lakh). Within three minutes of opening bookings, Xiaomi secured two lakh orders; this number rose close to three lakh within an hour.

Currently exclusive to China without any announced plans for Indian markets yet; however given previous successes seen globally it may only be matter time before expansion occurs elsewhere too!
