World Car Person Of The Year 2025 Contenders Revealed: Ralph Gilles, Simon Humphries, And Stella Li
The World Car Finals, powered by Brembo, has announced the nominees for the World Car Person of the Year 2025. The contenders are Ralph Gilles from Stellantis, Simon Humphries from Toyota, and Stella Li from BYD. These individuals have been recognised for their significant contributions to the automotive industry over the past year.
Ralph Gilles, Stellantis' Chief Design Officer, began his career at Chrysler in 1992. He became chief designer in 2008 and later took on CEO roles for various brands. Under his leadership, several innovative vehicles debuted last year, including the electric Jeep Wagoneer S and a new Dodge Charger with both conventional and electric options.
Simon Humphries has been pivotal in revitalising Toyota's design language. Since joining Toyota in 1994, he has overseen a transformation that includes models like the Crown and CH-R. His work also extends to Lexus and partnerships with other brands such as Suzuki, focusing on electrification and shared platforms.
Stella Li serves as Executive Vice-President at BYD and has been instrumental in its global expansion since 1996. In 2024, BYD celebrated its 10-millionth new energy vehicle milestone. Li's vision includes innovations like the BYD Sealion 7's high-speed electric motor, making advanced technology more accessible.
A jury of 96 international automotive journalists from 30 countries selected these finalists based on their impact on the global automotive sector last year. The World Car Steering Committee chose the final three contenders. The winner will be announced via World Car TV on January 28th, 2025.
The World Car Awards programme recognises excellence across seven categories annually. Jurors test-drive eligible vehicles globally to determine winners in categories like World Electric Vehicle and World Urban Car. This initiative is supported by partners including AITASTIC Research & Consult and KPMG.

The New York International Auto Show will host the culmination of this year's awards journey on April 16th, 2025. Known as North America's largest auto show, it showcases technological innovations alongside nearly a thousand new cars and trucks each spring in Manhattan.
