Win A Unique Opportunity For Your Child To Race At The 2025 Goodwood Revival With Austin Pedal Cars
The Settrington Cup pedal car race at Goodwood Revival is a highlight of the weekend, drawing significant attention. Now, children have the chance to participate in this event. In 1955, Ted French emerged victorious in the inaugural Austin Pedal Cars Junior Grand Prix, earning an Austin J40 pedal car as his prize. This historic J40 will be carefully restored by Austin Pedal Cars, and one fortunate competition winner will race it in the 2025 Goodwood Revival Settrington Cup.
In partnership with Goodwood, Austin Pedal Cars is offering a unique opportunity for a child to compete in the Settrington Cup race during the 2025 Goodwood Revival. The winner will not only join the grid at this renowned pedal car race but also become part of pedal car racing history. Additionally, the prize includes family tickets for four for the entire Revival weekend.
Ted French's victory in 1955 at Silverstone marked a pivotal moment for pedal car racing. His prize was an Austin J40 pedal car, which his father meticulously maintained for him to enjoy throughout his childhood. Remarkably, Ted cherished this classic pedal car for 70 years, preserving its original race number and signs of wear from years of use and love.
The 1955 Austin Pedal Cars Junior Grand Prix at Silverstone played a crucial role in popularising J40 racing. It inspired what we now know as the annual Settrington Cup race. While researching their award-winning book on J40 history, the Austin Pedal Cars team met Ted French to interview him and photograph his beloved pedal car.
Realising that 2025 marks 70 years since Ted's victory, it was decided that his prize-winning J40 should race again to celebrate this special anniversary. The car will compete at the largest and most famous J40 race globally—the Settrington Cup at Goodwood. Although fully prepared by Austin Pedal Cars for racing, it will retain its aged appearance to honour its place in classic pedal car history.
The winning prize package includes four weekend tickets for the 2025 Goodwood Revival and participation in both Saturday and Sunday heats of the Settrington Cup with Ted French's car. Additionally, winners receive Austin J40 merchandise and can familiarise themselves with the vehicle at Goodwood Motor Circuit before the event.
A Unique Opportunity
Mark Burnett, Managing Director of Austin Pedal Cars, stated: "This is a very special prize, not just for fans of the Austin J40 but for any family who wants to give their child the experience of a lifetime." He emphasised that although built in 1955 and enjoyed throughout its life, this sympathetically restored car is sure to capture attention during Revival weekend.
Austin Pedal Cars offers a comprehensive range of spares for the Austin J40. These are designed to original specifications using modern techniques to ensure perfect fit and quality. They also provide various restoration options tailored to different types of J40 owners.
The definitive history book on the Austin J40 pedal car was written with expert David Whyley. It uncovers new information and stories about this important vehicle. The book won Book of the Year at the Royal Automobile Club awards in 2024.
This lavishly produced book features extensive research and numerous previously unpublished photographs and documents. It tells the full story of Austin's diminutive Pathfinder based on 1930s racers and its successor, the J40.
