The Wedge Revolution: Discover Innovative Automotive Design At Petersen Museum Exhibit
Innovative vehicles that redefined automotive design will be the highlight of a new exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum. "The Wedge Revolution: Cars on the Cutting Edge," opening on August 2, will delve into the rise and influence of wedge-shaped car designs from the 1960s to the 1980s. This exhibit, located in the museum's Design Gallery, is co-curated with Tesla's Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen.
The exhibition will feature a variety of cars that embody the bold and angular styling characteristic of this era. It marks a shift from decorative curves and chrome to sleek lines and geometric shapes. The "wedge style" introduced a minimalist and aerodynamic approach to car design. Visitors can explore both production cars and concept models from famous designers and manufacturers.

Among the notable vehicles on display are early influential models like the 1966 Cannara I, 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, 1974 Lamborghini Countach LP400 "Periscopio," 1979 Aston Martin Bulldog, and 1976 Chevrolet Aerovette. Modern interpretations such as the Tesla Cybertruck and the 2016 Lo-Res Car will also be featured. Designs by Marcello Gandini, Sergio Coggiola, William Towns, and Jerry Palmer are included.
Terry L. Karges, executive director of the Petersen Automotive Museum, stated, "The wedge era produced some of the most daring and forward-thinking designs in automotive history." He added that this exhibit allows visitors to see how wedge design continues to influence modern vehicles.
"The Wedge Revolution: Cars on the Cutting Edge" will be open until September 2026. The museum is situated at 6060 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Admission costs $21 for adults, $19 for seniors aged 62 and above, $13 for youths aged 12-17, and $12 for children aged 4-11.
