2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift Launched In India At Rs 1.03 Crore

Volvo has introduced the updated version of its luxury SUV, the XC90, in India with a price tag of Rs 1.03 crore (ex-showroom). This facelifted model arrives with a host of enhancements, both in terms of design and technology, positioning it as a formidable competitor to the likes of the Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, and Audi Q7. Notably, the new XC90 is now Rs 2 lakh pricier than its predecessor, reflecting the additions and improvements made.

The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift brings to the table a refined exterior that draws inspiration from the all-electric Volvo EX90. Key updates include a restyled grille featuring diagonal slats, more slender 'Thor’ hammer headlights, updated bumpers, darker tail-lamps, and fresh alloy wheel designs. Despite these changes, the SUV maintains its recognizable silhouette. For those opting for air suspension, the ground clearance can be increased to an impressive 267mm from the standard 238mm.

Interior Enhancements and Sustainable Materials

Inside the cabin, the XC90 facelift showcases a blend of familiarity and new elements. The use of recycled materials for the upholstery echoes Volvo's commitment to sustainability. A significant upgrade is the introduction of a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen, replacing the older 9-inch model.

This new screen, which runs Google-based software, supports over-the-air (OTA) updates and boasts an improved resolution. Features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, memory seats, and an air purifier with a PM 2.5 filter continue to enhance the driving experience.

Underneath the hood, the XC90 retains its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine, capable of delivering 250hp and 360Nm of torque. This engine, coupled with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 7.7 seconds. Notably, Volvo has chosen not to offer a diesel engine option with this facelift, a decision also made by Audi with its Q7, contrasting with the diesel options available for the Mercedes and BMW models.

Competitive Pricing and Market Position

With its updated pricing, the 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift directly challenges its German rivals. The Audi Q7 emerges as the most affordable option in this segment, while the Volvo positions itself competitively with comprehensive updates and features. This competitive pricing strategy is critical for Volvo as it aims to capture a larger share of the luxury SUV market in India, where the demand for high-end vehicles continues to grow.

DriveSpark Thinks

The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift not only offers a more sophisticated exterior and enhanced interior features but also maintains its reputation for performance with its turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine. Despite the absence of a diesel variant, the SUV stands out for its commitment to sustainability and technological advancements, making it a compelling choice for luxury SUV buyers in India.
