Volvo Cars Reports April 2025 Global Sales Decline Of 11% With XC60 Leading Sales

Volvo Cars experienced a decline in global sales for April, with figures reaching 58,881 vehicles, marking an 11% decrease from the previous year. The company's electrified models, including both fully electric and plug-in hybrids, saw a 16% drop compared to last year. These electrified vehicles made up 45% of total sales in April. Fully electric cars accounted for 20%, while plug-in hybrids represented 25% of the month's sales.

In April, the XC60 emerged as Volvo's top-selling model with 19,887 units sold, slightly up from last year's 19,542. Following closely were the XC40/EX40 models with sales of 13,783 cars, down from 15,139 in the previous year. The XC90 also saw an increase in sales to 9,746 units compared to last year's 8,698.

Volvo Cars April 2025 Sales Report

The performance of Volvo's electrified models showed mixed results. Fully electric car sales dropped by 32%, with only 11,697 units sold compared to last year's 17,090. However, plug-in hybrid models saw a slight increase of 2%, reaching sales of 14,688 units compared to last year's figure of 14,433.

For the first four months of the year, Volvo's total global sales reached 231,100 cars, reflecting a decrease of 7% from the same period in the previous year. Sales of electrified models during this period amounted to 100,868 units, a decline of 5%. Fully electric vehicles accounted for a significant portion of this decline with a drop of 20%, while plug-in hybrids increased by 11%.

In the full year of 2024, Volvo Car Group achieved a remarkable core operating profit of SEK 27 billion. The company's revenue reached an unprecedented SEK 400.2 billion. Global sales for that year hit a record high with a total of 763,389 cars sold worldwide.

Founded in 1927, Volvo Cars has grown into one of the most recognised automotive brands globally. It operates in over 100 countries and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm under "VOLCAR B." The company aims to become fully electric and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2040.
