Volkswagen Tiguan R Line Set For India Launch On April 14
The upcoming introduction of the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line to the Indian market marks a significant addition to Volkswagen's SUV lineup. Slated for launch on April 14, this range-topping variant will be brought to India as a completely imported unit. With an expected price tag of approximately Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tiguan R Line aims to blend sportiness with luxury, offering a host of enhanced exterior and interior features.
At the heart of the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line's appeal is its engine – a powerful 265hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine is expected to provide a thrilling driving experience, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive for superior handling.
The current model available in India boasts a 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, making the R Line a significant upgrade in terms of performance. It's important to note that while the Tiguan R Line is available with a variety of powertrain options internationally, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid petrols and a diesel engine, these versions are not expected to be offered in India.
Design & Features of the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line
The exterior of the Tiguan R Line is designed to exude sportiness, featuring updated front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, and distinctive side panels that bear the R Line specification. Enhancing its sporty stance are the full-width horizontal LED light strips at both the front and rear, alongside larger 19-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, the latest generation of the Tiguan has been extended by 30mm in length compared to the previous model, although the wheelbase remains unchanged.
The interior of the Tiguan R Line is equally impressive, furnished with sports seats and an ambient lighting package that offers three light zones and 30 colour options, allowing for a personalized cabin atmosphere. The SUV also comes equipped with a 10.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. These systems run on VW's latest MIB4 software platform, which supports over-the-air updates, ensuring that the vehicle's technology stays current.
Volkswagen's decision to introduce the Tiguan R Line as its most expensive SUV offering in India reflects the company's commitment to delivering high-quality, feature-packed vehicles. The Tiguan's existing model is priced at Rs 38.17 lakh (ex-showroom, India), indicating that the new R Line variant will command a significant premium. This price adjustment is justified by the R Line's enhanced performance capabilities, luxurious interior appointments, and advanced technological features.
