Volkswagen Introduces Driver Access Program Featuring Torsten Gross As Ambassador For Disability Inclusion
Volkswagen of America has introduced a new phase for its Driver Access program, welcoming Torsten Gross as its first ambassador. Gross, a quadriplegic race-car driver, is reshaping views on driving capabilities. The initiative offers up to $1,000 reimbursement for adaptive equipment on new or Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen vehicles to eligible drivers with physical disabilities.
Gross, who has excelled in motorsports despite being a C6 quadriplegic, embodies the program's mission to redefine mobility. "As someone who’s experienced both the challenges and the triumphs of adaptive driving, I’m honored to join VW in a mission to help others find their way forward," said Torsten Gross. "Every time I get behind the wheel, whether it’s my race car or my street car, I’m reminded that possibilities are endless and through the Driver Access program, we’re opening that sense of freedom and confidence to even more Volkswagen drivers."
The Driver Access initiative aligns with Volkswagen's broader efforts for inclusivity through its Employee Resource Group (ERG), known as Volkswagen Inclusive Environment Workforce (VIEW). This group focuses on disability inclusion and equity within the workplace and beyond. By supporting underrepresented communities, Volkswagen aims to redefine mobility for individuals of all abilities.
Volkswagen is providing Gross with a 2025 GTI equipped with adaptive features tailored to his needs. As an ambassador, Gross will contribute his insights on product accessibility and engage in public speaking at events and forums. He will also be an internal speaker across Volkswagen Group’s workforce.
Rachael Zaluzec, SVP of Marketing & Customer Experience for Volkswagen of America, highlighted Gross's impact: "Torsten’s story is a powerful reminder that accessibility and performance can go hand in hand." His passion makes him an ideal partner as Volkswagen strives for more inclusive vehicle experiences.
Gross leads the Just Hands Foundation from Sharon, CT, alongside his wife Maggie and their dog Beau. The foundation encourages disabled individuals to take control of their lives metaphorically and literally by getting behind the wheel.
