VinFast To Enter Indian Automotive Market With Manufacturing Facility In Tuticorin
VinFast, a Vietnamese automotive company, is preparing to enter the Indian market, a move that could significantly impact the country's automotive industry. The announcement was made at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, where VinFast revealed plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, within three months. This development marks a crucial step for VinFast's expansion into India.
The decision to set up in Tuticorin is due to Tamil Nadu's strong infrastructure and maritime links. This choice highlights the state's growing importance in the automotive sector. Initially, VinFast plans to produce 50,000 vehicles annually at this plant, with future expansions aiming for 150,000 units. The facility will manufacture both right-hand and left-hand drive models, including the VF3, VF5, and i34.
VinFast's manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu will join existing EV hubs in Chennai, Krishnagiri, and Coimbatore. With 90% of construction completed, production is set to begin soon. This move is part of VinFast's broader strategy to establish a foothold in the Indian market.
The establishment of this plant not only expands VinFast's manufacturing capabilities but also boosts Tamil Nadu's investment and job creation efforts. Approximately 3,500 new jobs will be created, significantly benefiting the local economy. VinFast's commitment to local production includes working with local suppliers to ensure competitive pricing for its vehicles.
VinFast's entry into India will begin with the VF7 electric SUV, followed by models like the VF6 and VF3. This approach aims to introduce VinFast's premium offerings to Indian consumers, initially targeting the mid-premium segment. To support its operations, VinFast is establishing shipping connections with Haiphong Port in Vietnam. This initiative will facilitate importing essential EV components and exporting fully assembled vehicles. Production is expected to start by May, with an official launch planned for June.
