Travis Pastrana Joins 2025 American Rally Association Season At Olympus Rally With New L4WD Car
Travis Pastrana, a renowned figure in extreme sports and a driver for Subaru Motorsports USA, is set to participate in the 2025 American Rally Association (ARA) season. He will compete at the Olympus Rally in Washington on April 12-13. Pastrana, along with co-driver Rhianon Gelsomino, will not be driving the WRX ARA25 but instead a newly developed rally car for the Limited Four-Wheel Drive (L4WD) class.
The new rally car has been created in collaboration with Subaru Motorsports USA's technical partner, Vermont SportsCar (VSC). This vehicle is designed for the L4WD category, which allows fewer modifications compared to the Open Four-Wheel Drive (O4WD) class. The O4WD class includes cars like the WRX ARA25 driven by Brandon Semenuk and Keaton Williams of Subaru Motorsports USA.
Pastrana expressed his enthusiasm about returning to rallying, stating, "Couldn’t be more excited to be back rallying!" His decision to join the L4WD class aims to promote rally racing in America. "Subaru Motorsports USA agreed to build a more affordable car for me in the hopes of inspiring more drivers to compete in the series," he explained.
The L4WD cars are not factory stock but have limited modifications compared to their O4WD counterparts. This makes them closer to everyday vehicles. Pastrana hopes his participation will encourage others who feel rallying is inaccessible. He stated, "My goal this year is to have a lot of fun and build on this as a proof of concept that will hopefully inspire more drivers from the USA and around the world to come race with us in the ARA championship."
Pastrana's schedule for the L4WD class extends beyond national events. He plans to compete at Rally Colorado in July, an ARA Super Regional event. He remarked, "We have some of the greatest roads in the world, and I’m looking forward to building something that will help build great competition for years to come."
