Traffic Violations Rise During Holi In Delhi: Challan Numbers Leave Netizens Shocked!
During the Holi celebrations in 2025, traffic violations in Delhi more than doubled. The Delhi Traffic Police issued 7,230 challans on the festival day, a significant increase from the 3,589 recorded in 2024. This surge highlights growing concerns about road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
Drunken driving cases saw a notable rise during Holi 2025. The police penalised 1,213 motorists for this offense, compared to 824 in the previous year. Helmet-related violations also increased by 56%, with challans rising from 1,524 in 2024 to 2,376 in 2025.

Traffic Violations & Safety Concerns
Other traffic offenses also showed an upward trend during Holi. Triple-riding resulted in 573 challans being issued, while tinted glass violations led to fines for 97 motorists. Additionally, the number of violators booked for various other traffic offenses rose from 1,241 in 2024 to 2,971 in 2025.
The Delhi Traffic Police took several measures to ensure public safety and reduce traffic violations during Holi. They deployed 84 special teams equipped with alcometers to check drunken driving. Furthermore, they formed 40 joint checking teams comprising traffic police and local law enforcement personnel.
Measures By Delhi Traffic Police
These teams were stationed at major intersections and drinking hotspots across the capital from morning until midnight. "Keeping in view the Holi celebrations, we implemented extensive arrangements to curb drunken driving, triple-riding, underage driving, and stunt performances on two-wheelers," stated Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta.
The rise in traffic violations during Holi underscores the need for enhanced enforcement and public awareness campaigns on road safety. Despite extensive measures by the Delhi Traffic Police, the increase in offenses suggests a greater need for compliance with traffic laws.
Addressing Rising Violations
Authorities are expected to evaluate their enforcement strategies and introduce additional measures for safer celebrations in future years. Meanwhile, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to ensure everyone's safety on the roads.
