Auto Expo 2025: Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Details You Should Know
Toyota has introduced the Urban Cruiser EV, an electric vehicle based on the Suzuki Vitara. This new model shares its powertrain, interior, and features with the Vitara. Toyota plans to display this EV at the Bharat Mobility Expo later this month. The Urban Cruiser EV is part of Toyota's strategy to expand its zero-emission vehicle lineup.
Urban Cruiser EV Specifications
The Urban Cruiser EV is slightly larger than Toyota's Yaris Cross hybrid SUV. It measures 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,640mm in height. A sliding rear seat system allows for adjustable space between passengers, comparable to larger D-segment SUVs. The seats can split-fold in a 40:20:40 configuration and recline for added comfort.

Toyota aims to have 15 zero-emission vehicles by 2026, including six battery-electric models on a dedicated platform. This expansion will help reduce emissions across the region. The goal is a complete CO2 reduction by 2035, aligning with Toyota Europe's target of full carbon neutrality by 2040.
Battery Options & Performance
The Urban Cruiser EV offers two battery pack options with front or all-wheel drive configurations. Both use lithium-iron phosphate technology. The front-wheel drive (FWD) version includes a 49 kWh battery producing 144bhp and a 61 kWh battery delivering 174bhp. The all-wheel drive (AWD) model uses the 61 kWh battery for an output of 184bhp.

A rear axle motor adds grip on slippery surfaces for the AWD version. This system includes downhill assist control and trail mode, which manages wheel spin by directing torque to the opposite wheel. The FWD model features a 'snow mode' that controls torque to reduce wheel-slip on snowy roads.
Toyota's commitment to reducing emissions involves expanding its range of plug-in hybrid, full hybrid, and fuel cell electric vehicles alongside battery-electric models. This approach aims to progressively lower emissions across various regions as part of their broader environmental goals.

DriveSpark Thinks
