Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Hybrid Introduced: All Details Here
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, available internationally, now features a 48V mild-hybrid system. This enhancement aims to improve the diesel powertrain's smoothness. Toyota confirmed that all European Land Cruiser models will incorporate this MHEV system. The Prado is powered by a 204hp, 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, similar to the one in the Fortuner SUV.
The hybrid setup includes an electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery, and a DC-DC power converter. This combination supports auto start-stop for better fuel efficiency and adds 16hp and 65Nm during start-off. Energy recuperation under engine braking charges the battery.

Incorporating a motor-generator, the hybrid system in the Land Cruiser Prado Hybrid also features a 48V battery and a DC-DC power converter. This setup replaces the traditional alternator with an electric motor-generator. The small battery is charged through energy recuperation during engine braking.
The mild-hybrid system does not compromise off-road capabilities. Toyota assured that the Prado's ability to handle extreme conditions remains intact. Its 700mm wading depth is unaffected due to the waterproofed motor-generator mounted high on the engine block.
Performance and Off-Road Capability
The Prado's existing engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and benefits from the hybrid system's assistance. The vehicle maintains its off-road prowess with added support from the motor-generator on rough terrains. The driver's display shows operating status like CHG (energy regeneration), ECO, or PWR modes.
DriveSpark Thinks
Toyota plans to introduce the Prado in India later this year, though exact dates are not confirmed. If launched, it will be positioned below the Land Cruiser LC 300 in their lineup. It is also worth mentioning that Toyota also launched the hybrid version of the LC 300.
