Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Gets This Safety Feature To Improve Pedestrian Safety: All Details Here

Electric and hybrid vehicles, known for their quiet operation, pose safety concerns for pedestrians. To address this, many modern cars now feature an Acoustic Vehicle Alarm System (AVAS). This system has been integrated into the Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid to enhance pedestrian safety.

Pedestrians have long relied on the sound of petrol and diesel engines as a natural alert system. However, with the rise of silent EVs and hybrids, this auditory cue is missing. The absence of engine noise can lead to misjudgments about approaching vehicles, increasing accident risks.

The AVAS technology generates sounds audible to pedestrians, mimicking engine noises or futuristic tones. This feature is crucial when strong hybrid variants like the Innova Hycross operate in EV-only mode. It ensures that pedestrians remain aware of these otherwise silent vehicles.

The Innova Hycross Hybrid's strong hybrid variants—VX, VX(O), ZX, and ZX(O)—come equipped with AVAS. This addition not only boosts pedestrian safety but may also improve the car's ratings in Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Safety Features of Toyota Innova Hycross

Beyond AVAS, the Innova Hycross Hybrid boasts robust safety features. These include six airbags, hill start assist, vehicle stability control, and a panoramic view monitor with dynamic back guide. Additionally, it offers SOS (e-call), EPB with auto hold, parking sensors, a reverse camera, and an anti-theft device.

Toyota Safety Sense System enhances safety further with ADAS features like blind spot monitoring and dynamic radar cruise control. It also includes lane trace assist, rear cross traffic alert, pre-collision system, and auto high beam.

AVAS in Other Vehicles

The Maruti Grand Vitara introduced AVAS in 2023 with a price increase of Rs 4,000. The Maruti eVitara also features AVAS. Its rebadged Toyota version is expected to include this system as well. Among competitors, the Tata Curvv EV is equipped with AVAS too.

While the Innova Hycross Hybrid hasn't undergone crash testing yet, its comprehensive safety features suggest promising results in future assessments. The integration of AVAS marks a significant step towards safer urban environments as electric and hybrid vehicles become more prevalent on roads.
