Toyota Innova Hycross Receives 5-Star BNCAP Crash Test Rating
The Toyota Innova Hycross has recently achieved a 5-star rating in the latest Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) crash tests. This makes it the first Toyota model and multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to have its crash test results declared by BNCAP. The Toyota Innova Hycross safety rating was impressive, securing 30.47 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection.
In terms of child safety, the Innova Hycross also excelled with a 5-star rating, scoring 45 out of 49 points. The tests involved dummies representing children aged 18 months and 3 years. The vehicle achieved full marks in both the Dynamic score and Child Restraint System (CRS) installation score, with scores of 24 and 12 respectively.

Comprehensive Safety Features
The Innova Hycross is equipped with numerous safety features as standard, including six airbags, ISOFIX mounts, ABS with EBD, stability control, and hill start assist. Additionally, the top-spec ZX (O) trim includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), enhancing overall safety.
BNCAP tested various variants of the Hycross, including the GX 8-seater petrol variant and both the VX 8-seater and ZX 7-seater hybrid variants. These ratings apply to all versions of the MPV, ensuring consistent safety across different models.
Detailed Crash Test Results
During adult occupant protection tests, the Hycross received a perfect score of 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. It earned a 'good' rating for all body parts in this test. In contrast, during the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 14.47 out of 16 points.
The frontal offset test revealed that while most body parts received a 'good' rating, the driver and front passenger's chest were rated as 'adequate'. Similarly, the driver's left tibia was also rated 'adequate'. In the side pole impact test, both driver and passenger chests received an 'adequate' rating.
Child Occupant Protection Excellence
The child occupant protection tests highlighted the Hycross's strong performance with a total score of 45 out of 49 points. It achieved full marks in dynamic testing and CRS installation scores. However, it scored slightly lower in vehicle assessment with nine out of thirteen points.
