Toyota Innova Celebrates 20 Years in India, Crosses 12 Lakh Sales Milestone
Toyota is celebrating 20 years of the Innova going on sale in India. Over those two decades, over 1.2 million (12 lakh) units of the Innova have been sold in India.
Launched in 2005, the original Innova redefined the MPV segment with its body-on-frame construction, spacious interiors and an extremely reliable engine.

Designed for both family and commercial use, the OG Innova offered ride comfort, reliability, and long-term value and quickly gained traction across urban and rural markets, becoming a common sight nationwide.
In 2016, Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the Innova Crysta. The second-gen version of the Innova featured a redesigned exterior, enhanced engine performance, improved safety features, and a more premium interior.
The Innova Crysta generation solidified Toyota's position in the segment by appealing to customers seeking greater comfort without compromising on the reliability first showcased by the OG Innova.
The latest evolution of the Innova came in 2022 with the launch of the Innova HyCross. This self-charging hybrid electric vehicle is built on Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid technology.
The Innova HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine aided by an electric motor, that are paired with an e-CVT transmission, delivering a combined output of 186PS and high fuel efficiency for a vehicle of its size of 23.24 kmpl.
The HyCross introduced several segment-first features such as a crossover-inspired design, panoramic sunroof, automatic LED headlamps, and dual-function daytime running lights. By November 2024, it had achieved a sales milestone of 100,000 units within two years of its launch. This reflects growing consumer acceptance of hybrid technology in India.
Speaking on the Toyota Innova milestone, Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President - Sales-Service-Used Car Business - Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, "The Toyota Innova has built a deep emotional bond with customers over the last two decades - trusted as a dependable companion for families, loved by all for its comfort and reliability, and chosen time and again across generations. Whether for daily commutes or memorable road trips, the Innova has remained a part of countless personal journeys. Beyond its emotional connect, the Innova stands strong as a product benchmark - offering spacious interiors, robust build quality and smooth drivability, making it one of the most trusted and loved MPVs in India."
