Toyota Fortuner Prices Hiked By Up To Rs 68,000 - The Neo Drive Effect?
Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has recently raised the prices of its popular SUVs, the Fortuner and Legender. This increase is limited to select variants, with no changes in features or equipment. The Fortuner 4x2 variant sees the highest price rise, now costing Rs 68,000 more. Meanwhile, the Fortuner 4x2 diesel manual and automatic trims, along with the Fortuner 4x4 diesel manual, have each seen a Rs 40,000 hike.
The Legender's 4x4 diesel manual and automatic trims also experience a Rs 40,000 increase. Despite these hikes, the starting price for the Toyota Fortuner remains at Rs 36.05 lakh (ex-showroom), reaching up to Rs 52.34 lakh (ex-showroom). The Legender's pricing adjustments follow a similar pattern.

The Toyota Fortuner offers both petrol and diesel engine options: a 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.8-litre diesel engine. Both engines are available with six-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmissions.
New Neo Drive Variants
Toyota has introduced new Neo Drive versions of both the regular Fortuner and and its higher-specced Legender variants. These models feature an advanced 48-Volt system aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency and driving performance. The Neo Drive variants are equipped with a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with this new system.
The Neo Drive's technology includes a belt-integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery. This setup promises smoother acceleration at lower speeds, quieter operation, and better efficiency overall. The Fortuner Neo Drive 48V is priced at Rs 44.72 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Legender Neo Drive 48V costs Rs 50.09 lakh (ex-showroom).
Reasons Behind Price Increase
Toyota has not officially explained the reasons for this price increase. However, several factors could be influencing it. The introduction of mild-hybrid variants might be one reason. These variants include features like regenerative braking and an idle start-stop system.
Additionally, the updated models also bring convenience features such as a 360-degree camera and wireless charging. Such enhancements often lead to higher manufacturing costs that may be passed on to consumers. Broader economic factors like inflationary pressures and rising input costs also play a role in periodic price revisions.
Another reason may be the fact that despite increasing competition in the market, the Fortuner continues to sell well, which allows Toyota to justify periodic price adjustments.
