Top Best-Selling Cars & SUVs In India For July 2025: Dzire Leads, Thar Surges
In July 2025, the Indian car and SUV market displayed a varied performance with notable shifts in sales figures with the top 10 passenger vehicles accounting for 7.58% increase in sales.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire led the sales charts as the best-selling car, boasting a significant 79.4% increase in year-on-year sales, with 20,895 units sold. Following it, the Hyundai Creta, including its electric variants, observed a slight sales dip of 2.61%.

The Maruti Ertiga also saw positive movement, with a 5.75% growth in sales, demonstrating consumer preference for both compact and mid-sized vehicles. The Wagon R and Swift, for instance, saw declines of 9.15% and 15.81%, respectively, indicating a shift in buyer preferences. Conversely, the Scorpio models from Mahindra enjoyed a 12.34% increase, highlighting continued interest in more rugged utility vehicles.
Additionally, the Maruti Fronx and Baleno posted impressive gains of 17.82% and 34.31%, respectively, underscoring the brand's strong presence in the market. This varied performance across different models led to an overall 7.58% increase in sales for the top 10 cars, totaling 1,49,309 units.

The Mahindra Thar, including its ROXX variant, saw an extraordinary surge of 124.52%, more than doubling its previous year's sales with 9,845 units. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch and Maruti Grand Vitara faced steep declines of 33.10% and 32.18%, respectively, indicating possible shifts in market dynamics or consumer preferences.
The SUV market in July 2025 showcased some contrasting trends. While the Hyundai Creta maintained its lead despite a minor sales dip, the Maruti Fronx registered a notable 17.82% increase, positioning it strongly among crossover SUVs.

Several models in the SUV category, such as the Toyota Hyryder and Hyundai Venue, experienced growth and decline respectively, illustrating the volatile nature of consumer preferences in this segment. Additionally, the Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO faced downturns in sales, further emphasizing the competitive and ever-changing landscape of the Indian SUV market.
Despite these fluctuations, certain models like the Kia Seltos managed to rebound with a 12.4% increase in sales, suggesting that specific brands and models continue to find favor among Indian consumers. The anticipation around Maruti's upcoming SUV launch on 3rd September could also be influencing the market, particularly affecting the sales of models like the Grand Vitara.
