The Kia Syros is set to join the diesel compact SUV market soon. This segment already includes a few models, including the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra Bolero Neo.
Among these diesel SUVs, not all offer automatic gearboxes, such as the Hyundai Venue diesel. However, the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO feature a 6-speed AMT unit. Meanwhile, both the Kia Sonet and Syros come with a 6-speed torque converter.

Kia Syros - 20.75km/l
Kia's upcoming Syros boasts a distinctive design and offers both manual and automatic options with its 116hp, 1.5-litre engine. The manual version achieves an ARAI rating of 20.75km/l, while the automatic version is slightly lower at 17.65km/l.

Mahindra XUV 3XO - 21.2km/l
The Mahindra XUV 3XO offers more premium features than other models in this segment and seats five passengers comfortably. It comes equipped with a powerful 117hp, 1.5-litre engine available in both manual (20.6km/l) and AMT (21.2km/l) versions.

Kia Sonet - 22.3km/l
The Kia Sonet shares its engine with the Syros but delivers better efficiency: it achieves an ARAI figure of 22.3km/l for the manual version and 18.6km/l for the automatic one.

Hyundai Venue -23.7km/l
The Hyundai Venue also uses the same engine as the Kias but only comes with a manual transmission option that achieves an impressive ARAI rating of 23.7km/l.

Tata Nexon - 24.08km/l
Topping this list is the Tata Nexon, which recently received updates for its diesel range, now priced between Rs 11.30 lakh - Rs 15 .60 lakh. Powered by a 115hp, 1.5 litre engine, it offers both manual & AMT gearboxes. The latter makes it most efficient among competitors, achieving 24.08km/l according to ARAI ratings. In contrast, the manual variant delivers 23.23 km/l.
