Top 10 Carmakers In August 2025 (Retail Sales) - Maruti, Mahindra & Hyundai Claim The Podium Spots
India's passenger-vehicle market recorded a total of 3,23,256 units sold in August 2025, edging up 0.93 % year-on-year from August 2025 but dipping 1.63 % month-over-month when compared to July 2025's numbers.
The latest data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) reveals that ost automakers were in the red in terms of both year-over-year (11 out of 18) and month-over-month (15 out of 18) metrics.

India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki held firm at the top once again with 127,905 units sold in August, rising 786 units (0.62 %) over August 2024. However, Maruti's sales numbers fell by 1,259 units (-0.97 %) compared to July 2025. Its market share stood at 39.57 %.
Indian utility vehicle specialist Mahindra sold 43,632 units in August 2025. Mahindra's sales were up by 3,063 units (+7.55 %) YoY compared to August 2025 with MoM numbers also in the black, up by 1,425 (+3.38 %) MoM when compared to July 2025.

South Korean carmaker Hyundai rounded off the podium, selling 42,226 units last month. Hyundai's numbers were in the red, down 1,212 units (-2.79 %) year-on-year compared to August 2024 and also down 783 units(-1.82 %) MoM compared to July.
Tata Motors took fourth place on the sales charts for August 2025 with 38,286 units sold last month. Both Y-o-Y and M-o-M metrics were in the red for Tata Motors, sliding by 1,578 units (-3.96 %) from last August and falling by 2,200 units (-5.43 %) from July.
Japanese carmaker Toyota rounded off the top 5 in the August sales charts, accounting for 24,954 units sold. Toyota's numbers jumped by 1,372 units (+5.82 %) compared to August 204. However, M-o-M metrics were down by 416 units (-1.64 %) from last month.

The Other Players
South Korean carmaker Kia sold 18,212 units last month. Kia's metrics were in the red, declining by 1,092 units(-5.66 %) YoY and 1,282 units (-6.58 %) MoM.
Skoda Auto VW India (the Indian arm of the VW group with brands like VW, Skoda, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche under it) recorded 8,111 units in August. Numbers were up by 1,831 units (+29.16 %) YoY and 93 units (+1.16 %) MoM.
British marque MG sold 5,717 units last month in India. MG's sales rose by 1,600 uits (+38.86 %) year-on-year compared to August 2025 but dropped by 316 units (-5.24 %) month-on-month when compared against July's numbers.
Honda took 9th place with a total of 4,041 units sold last month. Honda's sales were down by 923 units (-18.59 %) YoY compared to August 2024 and by 390 units(-8.80 %) MoM when compared to July 2025.
French carmaker Renault took the tenth spot, selling 2,593 units of its passenger vehicles in India last month. Renault's numbers were in the red i the Y-o-Y metrics, dropping by 436 units(-14.39 %), when compared to August last year. However, in terms of M-o-M metrics, Renault's sales rose by 301 units(+13.13 %) compared to July 2025.
