Tesla Supercharger Station Launched In India: Charging Cost & Other Details Here

Tesla has inaugurated its first V4 Supercharger station in India, located at One BKC in Mumbai. This marks the beginning of Tesla's plan to establish eight new Superchargers across the country. The charging station features four 250kW Superchargers and four 11kW Destination Chargers. This development comes just weeks after Tesla announced its entry into the Indian market.

The cost for using the 250kW Supercharger is set at Rs 24/kW. For a full charge on the Tesla Model Y, it would cost approximately Rs 1,800 for the Standard variant and over Rs 2,000 for the Long Range variant. In contrast, the 11kW Destination Charger is priced at Rs 14/kW, offering a more economical option.

Charging Efficiency and Features

With these Superchargers, Tesla Model Y users can achieve up to 267km of range in just 15 minutes. The chargers are owned and operated by Tesla, boasting a remarkable uptime of 99.95%. This ensures that charging is available around the clock. However, charging speed may vary based on factors like battery charge level and temperature.

The Tesla Model Y comes equipped with a navigation system that directs drivers to the nearest supercharging station. Additionally, it preconditions the battery before reaching the station to enable faster charging upon arrival.

Future Expansion Plans

Tesla plans to expand its Supercharger network with stations in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai by September. The company is also preparing to open its second experience centre in Delhi and install additional Superchargers in Aerocity, Noida, and Gurugram.

The payment process for using these chargers will be facilitated through the Tesla app on smartphones. This seamless integration aims to enhance user convenience while managing charging costs efficiently.

DriveSpark Thinks

The introduction of these charging stations aligns with Tesla's strategy to support its first offering in India—the Tesla Model Y. Available in both Standard and Long Range variants, this model represents Tesla's commitment to expanding its presence in India's growing electric vehicle market.
