Tesla Mumbai Showroom Opening Today! Model Y To Make Debut
Tesla is all geared up to open its first showroom at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Along with the opening of its new showroom, we expect Tesla Model Y electric SUV to make its debut on the same day with bookings commencing shortly afterwards.
Speaking about the new Tesla showroom at the BKC, it is a 4,000 sq.ft retail space just near the Apple's flagship store in the country. It is widely reported that Tesla has signed a 5-year lease contract for this space at Rs 35 lakh per month.
That said, the launch of the Tesla has been very much anticipated in India, and the Tesla Model Y electric SUV seems like the perfect model for the Indian consumers with its blend of affordability, practicality, and powertrain choices that offer decent range without sacrificing performance.
For India, the Tesla Model Y is expected to be available in two variants - RWD, and AWD. The Tesla Model Y RWD is features a single rear-mounted electric motor with 295hp and a 62.5kWh battery pack.
On the other hand, the AWD version will pack the long-range battery pack with an approximate rating of 81kWh. This model will pack two electric motors (one at each axle), which in tandem produce 444hp.
In terms of performance, the Tesla Model Y RWD variant is capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201km/h. The CLTC range for the Tesla Model Y is rated at 593km.
In comparison, the Tesla Model Y AWD variant reaches the 100km/h mark from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds. Also, thanks to the larger battery pack, the Tesla Model Y AWD CLTC range is rated at 719km. That said, top speed for this variant also stands at 201km/h.
Dimensions-wise, the Tesla Model Y measures 4,797mm long, 1,982mm wide (with mirrors folded), and 1,624 mm tall. However, the ground clearance of the Tesla Model Y could be of a slight issue compared to Indian speed breakers as it stands at just 167mm.
It is also worth mentioning that the Tesla Model Y is expected to feature 19-inch wheels to better suit Indian conditions as the optional 20-inch wheels could upset ride quality and range.
The Tesla Model Y will come to India as a CBU unit from China. However, we expect Tesla to aggressively price the models with a starting price of just Rs 43 lakh to Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom).
