Top-Spec Tesla Model Y Upgraded: Now Gets Bigger Battery & More Range
Tesla has quietly updated the Model Y Long Range RWD in India, extending its WLTP-certified range from 622km to 661km. This improvement comes just a few months after the Model Y made its India debut in July 2025. The SUV continues to be available in two variants - Standard RWD and Long Range RWD - with no change in pricing despite the upgrade.
Battery Pack & Range Upgrade
At launch, the Long Range RWD version of the Model Y was equipped with a 78.1kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 621km. Tesla has now swapped this out for a larger 84.2kWh battery, bumping up the claimed range to 661km - an increase of 39km. Despite the bigger battery, performance figures remain identical, with the electric motor mounted on the rear axle propelling the SUV from 0-100kmph in 5.6 seconds.

The Standard RWD variant, on the other hand, remains unchanged. It continues to use the 64kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-rated range of 500km. The 299hp single motor powering the rear wheels also stays the same.
Design & Features
Apart from the larger battery in the Long Range variant, no other updates have been made to the Model Y. The electric SUV retains its sleek and aerodynamic silhouette, along with the familiar minimalist interior layout. The cabin continues to feature a large central touchscreen, premium upholstery, and an array of comfort and convenience features that Tesla is known for.
Price & Availability
Despite the upgrade, Tesla has chosen not to increase the Model Y's pricing in India. The Standard RWD variant continues to retail at Rs 59.89 lakh, while the top-spec Long Range RWD variant is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
DriveSpark Thinks
With its extended range and competitive pricing, the Tesla Model Y Long Range strengthens its position as one of the most practical and capable electric SUVs available in India's premium EV segment.
