Taycan Turbo GT Achieves New Production EV Lap Record At Road Atlanta With Impressive Time
The Taycan Turbo GT, driven by Patrick Long, has set a new record for production electric vehicles at Road Atlanta. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020 by 6.73 seconds. Despite damp conditions, advancements in technology and tyres enabled this remarkable performance.
On May 28, 2025, under changing weather conditions, the Taycan Turbo GT completed a lap in 1:27.15 minutes. The track was mostly dry with some damp patches due to earlier rain. The temperature was in the mid-70s with moderate cloud cover and light winds from the north.
The Taycan Turbo GT's performance was enhanced by Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS NF0 summer tyres and the optional Weissach Package. These features were specifically developed for this model to optimise its capabilities on the track.
Patrick Long praised the car's braking system and overall handling after his first lap. "The new Taycan was so easy to get up to speed, and the brakes were amazing, there was absolutely no compromise in feel or power," he stated.
Long highlighted the effectiveness of the Active Ride suspension system during his record run. He noted that it effectively counteracted pitch, roll, and squat despite Road Atlanta's demanding layout.
"I expected the steering feel, connection, and feedback," Long said. "But I didn’t expect how powerful the Active Ride suspension would be in counteracting pitch, roll, and squat."
