Tata Sierra Spied Testing In Mumbai - Launch Expected Next Year

The upcoming Tata Sierra SUV has been spotted testing once more on the streets of Mumbai, indicating that its development is now in advanced stages. The model, which made its near production debut earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Expo, is now running full-road trials ahead of its launch sometime next year.

The latest spy images reveal the Sierra's large and upright stance, highlighting its long wheelbase and flat tailgate design. The squared-off rear and signature glass quarter-panels are clearly visible despite the heavy camouflage. Its silhouette strongly reflects the retro-modern theme that Tata showcased with the concept.

Up front, the Sierra carries a broad grille with horizontal slats and an upright bonnet, giving it a bold and rugged appeal. Flush-fitting door handles are visible on test vehicles, with some finished in illuminated detailing. The bumper section also appears to house sensors for the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which is expected to be offered on higher trims.

At the rear, design cues include a spoiler mounted above the tailgate and a shark-fin antenna, both contributing to a cleaner profile. The wide rear windscreen and squared tail section underline the SUV's boxy yet premium styling. The Sierra is expected to sit above the Harrier EV in Tata's product range and serve as the brand's new flagship SUV.

When it comes to powertrains, Tata Motors is preparing the Sierra with multiple options to appeal to a wider audience. The line-up is expected to include a diesel engine, a petrol motor around 1.5 litres in capacity, and a fully electric version. This multi-fuel strategy ensures Tata can target both traditional SUV buyers and customers transitioning to electrification.

Production of the Sierra is likely to begin in early 2026, with the market launch following soon after. Positioned as a premium SUV, the expected pricing could fall between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on trim levels and powertrain choices.

The Sierra will mark Tata's return to one of its most iconic badges, reimagined for modern buyers with technology-rich interiors, advanced driver aids, and a commanding design. With the growing popularity of premium SUVs in India, the Sierra is set to play a significant role in strengthening Tata's position in the segment.
